2nd Prize – Sports Features – 2007 World Press Photo
Arena Sprint – Nicolas Gouhier
A few days ago, we covered some of the winners from the World Press Photo competition, arguably one of the most important annual photo competitions. I’ve always taken it as a given that competitions are a great way to start or further a career, but an article I recently came across at Black Star Rising really hits this point home.
Black Star Rising is a photography blog run by pros. They recently discussed how to improve a career by using photography competitions. Black Star makes a good point: winning competitions may not bring you the fame and fortune you might expect, but it will give others (specifically photo editors) faith in your abilities. And with every win comes more freedom.
